Grid Method Drawing — A look at grid drawing in art history and contemporary art (2 pages) with discussion starter questions on history page. Challenge students with 6 different grid drawings. Then it gets a little more crazy and there is a large grid and 5 distorted grids. Using the images from the first grid drawings, choose the distorted grid and use the images on your choice (they get a little more difficult as they go). A surrealist touch on finished drawings with the distortions.

Using a grid in art, is most often associated with the 'grid method' - a system for drawing (or copying, depending on your standpoint), it's a valued mean of concentrated practice. It can help developed patience, concentration, observational skills, technical control and sensitivity.
