Pacific Northwest Art and TOTEM POLES!

This is a 15 page resource and includes (use as worksheets or use as slides on a screen):

  • Introduction to what a totem pole is and the 6 types of totem poles.
  • 4 totem pole styles and enlarged sheets/slides for each style.
  • Animal Symbolism in Totem poles with examples
  • Color Symbolism in totem poles
  • 2 coloring sheets, an easy for younger students and a bit more complicated one for older students
  • Clip art sheet of stylized totem pieces and 3 poles - I've had students cut out the pieces and start stacking on the pole as practice before the final project
  • 1 sheet with a colored stylized totem and 1 blank so students can practice drawing their own details

The most comprehensive Totem Pole package out there! Great addition for studies on indigenous people groups.

I grew up in Alaska and when I decided to teach totem poles I couldn't find one resource that had everything I wanted so I created this packet — I use this prior to jumping in to a final project. I've done toilet paper roll totem poles, paper mâché miniatures totems, personal/life totems that tell the story of the students life, collaborative totems with stacked milk jugs... just as some ideas.
